The Tondo Duo comprises saxophonist Sophia Elger and guitarist Declan Hickey. Passionate about new music, their repertoire largely consists of works by living composers, including Graham Lynch, Greg Caffrey, and Stephen Goss. This year, they commissioned a new work, Conundrum by Jack Gionis, and gave its world premiere in February at St John’s Smith Square in their themed programme ‘Classical Rebellion’. Following their live in session performance on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’, they are looking forward to working with Ciarán Farrell on a new suite for saxophone and guitar and with Bruno Quezada Chávez on a piece that explores the composer’s chromesthesia by combining music with the visual arts. Recently, they recorded their arrangement of New Chautauqua by Pat Metheny with Forte Sessions. The duo has performed at venues including in the Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall, Holy Trinity Sloane Square, the 1901 Arts Club, and Conway Hall.
